Platform Guidelines

These guidelines define how users and platforms operate within the Serey ecosystem.

Serey is built for people who want to own what they publish, and to publish freely. We value privacy and anonymity. You do not need to tell us who you are to write, publish or earn on Serey, and we collect as little information about you as we can.

We believe creators should not lose their work because a company changed its mind, a government applied pressure, or an algorithm decided something was inconvenient.

Freedom works best when everyone shares a few basic rules. Serey has two layers:

The Serey Rule of Law

Applies to everyone on Serey, anonymous or not, on every platform, without exception. It is deliberately short, ruling out only what is genuinely immoral and harms real people.

Platform rules

Set by each platform owner. Anyone who builds a platform on Serey can add their own rules on top of the Rule of Law, to shape their community as they choose.

The Serey Rule of Law

These rules apply to every user and every platform on Serey, without exception.

Conduct and security

01. No theft, fraud or impersonation

Taking accounts, funds or content that are not yours. Scams, phishing, counterfeit goods, and pretending to be a specific real person or organisation. Using a pen name or an anonymous account is not impersonation and is fully permitted.

02. No attacks on accounts or systems

Accessing accounts or systems without permission, and uploading or distributing malicious software, phishing pages, or code designed to compromise other people’s systems.

03. No evading enforcement

Creating a new or anonymous account to get around a suspension or other action taken against you.

Content that is never allowed

The following is prohibited across all of Serey. There is no context, framing, or artistic justification that makes it acceptable.

Sexual exploitation of children

Child sexual abuse material in any form, sexualised depictions of minors whether real, drawn, generated, or described, content that facilitates grooming, and any attempt to use Serey to trade, locate, or advertise such material. We report this to the relevant authorities.

Violence and threats

Urging, planning or coordinating violence against people. Credible threats against a specific person or group. Promoting or recruiting for organisations that engage in terrorism. Instructions designed to enable serious physical harm. Writing about violence, conflict, crime, drugs, weapons or self-defence is permitted. The difference is between explaining and enabling.

Exploitation of people

Advertising, facilitating or profiting from trafficking, forced labour, or sexual exploitation. This includes intimate images or recordings published without the consent of the person depicted, whether real or synthetic.

Exposing people to harm

Publishing someone’s home address, personal phone number, family details, or identity documents in a way that exposes them to harassment or harm. This does not restrict journalism. Naming people, reporting on officials, executives, and public figures, publishing documents and records, and identifying people acting in a professional or official capacity are all permitted, including where the subject would prefer they were not. Exposing wrongdoing is the point of a platform like this.

Content that is restricted

Two things are allowed, with a condition attached.

Sexual content

Serey does not host pornography or content whose primary purpose is sexual arousal. This is a limitation of our payment infrastructure and legal obligations, not a judgement about the work. Writing about sex, sexuality, and sexual health is permitted, as is journalism about the adult industry, artistic and documentary work involving nudity, and literary fiction with sexual content.

Graphic or disturbing material

Permitted, provided it is marked so readers can choose whether to view it. We do not judge why it was published. War reporting, crime reporting, medical and historical material all belong here.

What we will not remove

So that there is no doubt, we do not remove content because:

  • it is unpopular, offensive, or makes people uncomfortable
  • it criticises a government, a company, or us
  • it makes serious allegations about identifiable people, and the subject objects

We do not decide what is true. Disputes about defamation are matters for the courts, and we respond to valid legal process.

Platform owners may take a different view. Each platform can set stricter rules and remove such content from its own pages. If that happens, the content is still yours, and you can publish it on another platform on Serey or take it with you.

Platform rules

Each platform on Serey can define its own content policies, community standards, and monetisation models. Platform operators are responsible for clearly communicating and enforcing their rules, while keeping to the Serey Rule of Law above.

Platform owners must clearly display their terms, policies and community guidelines, so that anyone publishing there knows the rules.

Platforms may define:

  • Content policies and restrictions
  • Community and interaction rules
  • Monetisation models, such as subscriptions or sponsorships
  • Moderation and dispute handling processes
  • Whether Publish forever is available on their platform

Standard publishing is always available, on every platform. Publish forever can be switched on or off by the platform owner, so check before writing if permanence matters to you.

Any sponsorship or advertising on a platform must respect Serey’s privacy standards, and may not add tracking to readers without their consent.

The Serey Rule of Law is the floor. A platform owner cannot permit what we prohibit, but they can prohibit what we permit.

If you publish within someone else’s platform, both sets of rules apply. If a platform owner removes your content, it remains yours and you can publish it elsewhere on Serey or take it with you.

Permanent publishing

Serey aims to make publishing last, while leaving the choice with you.

Proof of authorship. Every post is recorded on the Serey blockchain with a fingerprint of the content, a timestamp and your account name. Serey uses this fingerprint to find your post in storage and display it. The record is permanent, but it holds only the fingerprint, not the content itself.

Standard publishing. Your content is stored on S5, backed by the Sia network, and you can remove it at any time.

Sia stores files differently from an ordinary cloud service. Before anything leaves your device, the file is encrypted and split into thirty pieces, which are spread across thirty independent storage providers around the world. Any ten of them are enough to rebuild the file.

This means no storage provider can read what it holds, because each one has only an encrypted fragment and none has the key. It also means your work does not depend on any single company: twenty of the thirty providers could disappear and your file would still come back. Nothing sits in one data centre that can be switched off.

Publish forever. If you choose this option, your content is also stored on Arweave, a network designed for permanent storage. Arweave states that data is stored for at least 200 years, paid for once at upload with no renewals. Once it is there, it cannot be removed by you, by us, or by anyone else. Choose deliberately, as there is no undo. We show this warning at the point of publishing as well.

If you are publishing something you may want to withdraw later, or something concerning other people, use standard publishing.

The rules still apply. Content published forever is subject to these guidelines exactly as any other content is. We will remove prohibited material from every surface we control, act against the account, and report illegal material to the authorities.

Privacy and personal data

If you want your personal data corrected or removed, or you have any question about how Serey handles your data, contact us at [email protected]. We respond to every request and will tell you what we have done.

Standard content can be deleted in full. Content published forever cannot be removed from Arweave. For such content, we will remove it from all Serey interfaces and explain clearly what remains and why.

If you publish content about other people, you are responsible for what you publish. Take particular care before publishing information about identifiable people forever, because that decision cannot be reversed and it affects someone other than you.

Anonymous publishing

Serey supports anonymous accounts, and these guidelines apply to anonymous content exactly as they apply to everything else. Anonymity protects you from exposure. It does not create an exemption from the rules.

An anonymous account alongside your own. We are building a way for every account holder to create an additional anonymous account. It will be kept separate from your main account, so that your anonymous writing is not linked to your public identity.

Because anonymous accounts can be recreated, we protect the platform in other ways: invitation-based access, rate limits on new accounts, and review of content from accounts without history. Inviting someone does not make you responsible for what they publish. Each person is accountable for their own content.

Anonymity has limits that no platform can remove. Your writing style, the times you are active, and details in what you publish can still reveal who you are.

Reporting

If you find content that breaks these guidelines, report it through the report option on the content itself, or email [email protected].

Tell us what you found and where. For urgent matters involving imminent harm or child safety, mark the message urgent and we will prioritise it.

Reports about content that merely offends you, or that you disagree with, will not result in removal. That is by design.

What we do when rules are broken

Depending on severity and history, we may:

  • Remove the content from Serey’s interfaces
  • Restrict the account’s ability to publish or earn
  • Suspend or terminate the account
  • Report to law enforcement

For child sexual abuse material, we terminate immediately and report. There is no warning and no appeal.

For everything else, we tell you what was removed and why, unless doing so would interfere with a legal investigation.

Appeals

If you believe we made a mistake, reply to the notice you received or email [email protected] within 30 days. A person will review it, not an automated system.

We plan to publish a periodic transparency report covering removals, legal demands received, and how we responded.

Changes

We may update these guidelines. Material changes will be announced before they take effect, and the revision date at the top will be updated.

Serey provides an open and flexible infrastructure where platforms operate independently while maintaining a shared standard of trust, safety, and transparency across the ecosystem.
